Antoni Arola, winner of the 2003 National Design Award, is a prominent figure on the Spanish design panorama today. His rational approach has led him to produce outstanding solutions for anything from perfume bottles to lamps or major interior design projects. Arola enjoys a symbolism and suggestive approach to life and its spaces offered by cultures as alien as that of Africa, for example, which he incorporates into his work and daily life. His creations display his facet as a sculptor, his passion for drawing and his interest in contemporary art.
Antoni Arola is an industrial and interior designer from Tarragona, and a graduate form EINA University in Barcelona. He began his professional career at the Estudi Lievore i Pens, before joining AD Associate Designers. In 1994, he founded the Estudio Antoni Arola in Barcelona.
As a designer, Antoni Arola works on projects spanning a diverse range of fields: lighting, furniture, packaging, interior design and ephemeral installations. Inspired by ancestral cultures and his approach to light, Antoni Arola’s works are unique and versatile. The designer’s ongoing quest for beauty guides the development of each piece, his process increasingly fluctuating between art and design.
For many years now, he has been considered one of the most relevant designers in these fields, known for his distinctive visual universe. His work is both artistic and narrative, the pieces characterised by their clean lines and functional solutions.
His national and international presence has earned him a number of different awards. In 2003, he received the National Design Award, he has won 5 Delta de Plata, a RedDot and two IF Gold awards. His work has also been showcased at individual and group exhibitions in cities like Barcelona, Madrid, Milan, London, Mexico, New York and Tokyo.
Today, Antoni Arola combines his professional career as a designer with teaching and running workshops in artistic experimentation and light investigation at different schools and universities.
