Biography

Jaume Artigues obtained a degree in architecture from the Barcelona Higher Technical School of Architecture (ETSAB). He began his professional career in ARR Arquitectes and subsequently, in 1989, he came to form part of the Projects, Works and Urban Elements Department of the Town Council of Barcelona. This awakened an interest in public spaces leading him to focus his career on town planning and the design of urban furniture. During his professional career, Jaume Artigues has formed part of projects like "Promoció Ciutat Vella" and "Promoció Nou Barris" in Barcelona. He has also provided support for other recognised architecture studios such as Coque Bianco, Pedro Lorenzo and Rafael de Cáceres Zurita. Finally, Jaume Artigues founded his own studio and collaborated with various architects, administration bodies and public companies in the execution of town planning and architecture projects. Since then, he has focussed his professional career on studies and research for policies on heritage, museums, the history of architecture, sustainability in the territory and town planning. Some of his most notable works in the design of urban furniture and elements are: Levit (1990), the cast iron guttering in Ciutat Vella (1990), the support for the Aplic Prat light (1900) and the Rambles tree pit (1991). Also, lights like the Kanya (1995), Salix (1997), Ful (1998) and Central (2000).One of the occasions with the most recognition for Jaume Artigues was the representation of Barcelona in the Milan Triennale Exhibition of 1995. And in 1996 he received the FAD architecture award for outdoor spaces together with Olga Tarrassó, Jordi Henrich, Miguel Roig and Anna Maria Castañeda for the Barceloneta boardwalk town planning project. Throughout his professional career, Jaume collaborated at the Escola Massana as a guest professor and in the branch of landscape architecture at the Barcelona School of Architecture. Jaume Artigues created the Tram Planter (1994) together with Miguel Roig. An iron planter of average capacity for plants and bushes and useful for marking out urban spaces. Know more

Biography

Miguel Roig Roch obtained a degree in architecture from the Barcelona Higher Technical School of Architecture (ETSAB). He began his professional career in 1983 as a member of the Santa Coloma de Gramanet Equip de Projectes Urbans del Ajuntament. In 1988, together with Jordi Romero and Jaume Artigues, he created the firm ADD Arquitectes, and then moved to the Santa Coloma de Gramanet Servei de Projectes i Obre de l’Ajuntament, the Consorcio municipal Promoció Ciutat Vella and the Àrea de Projectes, Obres i Elements Urbans de l’Ajuntament de Barcelona. He took part in the 1995 Triennale di Milano and he commissioned various exhibitions and publications, such as Un tomb per Barcelona, implemented town planning projects (1995), Barcelona segona renovación, a collection of plans (1995) or Barcelona, una transformación constant, implemented for the International Union of Architects conference (1996).Finally, after his experience in the Consorcio del Besòs, he ended up joining the Santa Coloma de Gramanet Departamento de Acció Territorial del Ajuntament, which he currently directs. Miguel has always been close to local town planning, and has received various recognitions. The FAD Award for architecture and the Construmat for civil engineering, both in 1996 for the Paseo Marítimo de la Barceloneta planning project, the award in the 4th Architecture in Spain Biennial Exhibition in 1996, and the first Maresme Triennial architecture exhibition in 2004. Miguel Roig designed the Tram planter, together with Jaume Artigues (1994). A modular element, in a line, for introducing plants and bushes into the city, and for creating urban borders. Know more
