Despite the fact that they are more artificial, cities can be considered as an ecosystem that has specific requirements and conditions. Trees and plants in the Belloch Forestal nursery can adapt to this ecosystem to a greater or lesser extent, depending on their ability to tolerate the various environmental factors, providing environmental richness and shelter for urban biodiversity.
The Canon de Belloch is the result of an ambitious scientific study conceived to determine the optimum tree planting for our cities in the Iberian Peninsula, based on a holistic perspective. It is not only a question of previously unstated scientific curiosity, but it also exemplifies the social commitment of Belloch Forestal to promoting the best offer for all.
Through socio-environmental services, roadside trees are a valuable, necessary element in the urban environment. When selecting them, in our nursery, we consider whether they can adapt to a changing, demanding environment, how easy they are to maintain, minimizing possible risks caused by poor selection, cultivation or implantation.
Our environmental commitment drives us to innovate in sustainable projects. At Belloch Forestal, we grow our trees in AirPots®, considering their growth and the risks involved in incorrect implantation in the city. We investigate pest ecosystems and integrated ground cover plants to avoid herbicides or pesticides in our nursery and in the city. We explore species in similar climates to choose plants and trees with benefits that are suitable for our urban ecosystems. We look after the biodiversity on our land, and we manage the woody area around it responsibly.
